I've been a photographer for the last 17 years, following a 35 year career in marketing and advertising. The same 'people skills' that helped me succeed in business have translated into portrait photography. I can help people relax in front of my camera, and even the most shy indivuals have a good time working with me. In fact, every succesful headshot, portrait or comp card photograph is in part a testimony to the trust and rapport that exists between the person being photographed and the photographer.
Concurrent with photography, I've also written five off/off B'way plays which helped me understand what casting directors are looking for in a headshot, and the details of a good headshot. I also have done print modeling. Most recently I graduated from the School of Visual Arts with a MPS degree, enabling me to use light and frame more artistically, and use professional software to make a good photograph extremely good.
My studio set-up is in Manhattan, conveniently located near the B, C, #1 and #2 subways. Except for the obviously outdoors or stage images, all the photographs on this site were created there. Indoors most of my work is done with strobes and related equipment (including instant-reviews of shots), and outdoors I usually use available light sometimes supplemented with off-camera flash.
