"Too often the headshots I
get don't do a very good job
presenting the actor as I'd like to see him."
- from a 2002 interview with
a New York casting director
The Actor's Guide:How To Get The Best Headshot is the only book that talks about the work an actor must do to get his best headshot. Today's digital color headshots need more thought and planning than film's b&w's. The book shows how to work with a photographer to make certain a headshot sets you up for the roles you audition for.
It explains what agents want to see in a headshot. It covers the "details" of what to wear and not wear. It also explains how a reasonably priced photographer can deliver a good headshot if the actor does his part well in its creation. Plus, the book has new ideas to help prepare and format a more effective resume to go with the headshot.
ABOUT ELLIS GASKELL: After I'd sold the advertising and marketing agency I'd founded Jackie (my wife of 40+ years) and I came back to Manhattan so I could finally take up the photography career I'd studied for at college. That marketing background adds value to the headshot and theater publcity work I do. It also led me to find out what agents want in a headshot by talking with them directly. When I realized no one had up-dated advice on headshots since digital color had taken over, I wrote a book to help not only actors, but the many photographers who simply don't know what is important...and what isn't.
